Transplanted - 2020

Retracing my way back to my Eastern roots. Sadly, so much Korean history was lost in war - archives, art, documents burned to destruction. Which means word of mouth is one of the only ways to know where you came from. I’ve learned that my Korean ancestors were teachers, builders, soldiers, and farmers. So here I am, with those identities superimposed in paint over photographs of myself seeking to preserve a culture and history that seems out of reach at times. Sometimes all we can do is try to piece together what we can.

Transplanted was reexhibited in 2021 at Cladogram: 2nd Annual International Biennial, Katonah Museum of Art, New York, NY
